The Role

We are looking for the best and brightest industry research analysts to join us in our Melbourne Office.

This is a great entry-level opportunity to apply your economic knowledge, analytical abilities and writing skills while building a career with a fast-growing organisation. You will conduct ongoing research about various industries, gather and think critically about data, and write industry-specific reports. As you progress through the role, you may also have opportunities for media exposure while building a portfolio of industry reports.

You will be provided with on-the-job training when you first join IBISWorld and be supported by your colleagues to help you learn about our product and your role.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Researching and updating high-quality industry reports within specified deadlines, and in accordance with in-house editorial and quality standards
  • Collecting and interpreting diverse data related to multiple industries 
  • Keeping up-to-date with industry trends 
  • Analysing macroeconomic, demographic and industry-specific financial data to identify and clearly communicate key business trends
  • Giving interviews to journalists about your assigned industries as required 
  • Building basic spreadsheet models 
  • Forecasting and projecting based on existing industry data 
  • Any other duties as assigned by Industry Team Leaders or Production Manager

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in economics, commerce, business or other related fields
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to analyse and forecast economic data, demonstrated either through previous work experience or university studies
  • Experience researching and writing to meet tight deadlines 
  • Familiarity with online research techniques
  • A solid grasp of economics, financial terms and business concepts
  • A strong work ethic and openness to constructive feedback
  • Confidence to liaise with the media regarding current trends in the industries you have been assigned
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • A strong interest in keeping up-to-date with economic news and current events 
  • Experience writing business research articles, reports or other key documents for a business audience is an advantage
