The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic business research analysts to work in our Melbourne office. This is a great opportunity to apply your economic knowledge, analytical abilities and writing skills while building a career with a growing organisation. You will conduct ongoing research about various industries, gather and think critically about data, and write industry-specific thematic reports. As you progress through the role, you may also gain public recognition and media exposure for your work while building a portfolio of industry reports.

You will be provided with on the job training when you first join IBISWorld and be supported by your colleagues to help you learn about our product and your role.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Researching and updating high-quality industry reports within specified deadlines and in accordance with in-house editorial and quality standards
  • Collecting and interpreting diverse data related to multiple industries 
  • Gaining expertise through industry contacts and keeping current with industry events 
  • Analysing macroeconomic, demographic and industry-specific financial data to identify and clearly communicate key business trends
  • Giving interviews to journalists about your assigned industries as required 
  • Building basic spreadsheet models 
  • Forecasting and projecting based on existing industry data 
  • Any other duties as assigned by Industry Team Leaders or Production Manager

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in economics, commerce, business or other related fields
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyse and forecast economic data, demonstrated either through previous work experience or university studies
  • Experience researching and writing to meet short deadlines 
  • Familiarity with online research techniques
  • Solid grasp of economics, financial terms and business concepts
  • A strong work ethic and openness to constructive feedback
  • Confidence to liaise with media regarding current trends within the industries you have been assigned
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong interest in keeping up-to-date with economic news and current events 
  • Experience writing business research articles, reports or other key documents for a business audience is an advantage
