The Role

IBISWorld is looking for an enthusiastic person to work in our Melbourne office as an entry-level Assistant Editor. The Assistant Editor will be responsible for editing market research reports to ensure that they adhere to IBISWorld writing standards and style guidelines. The editor must be comfortable with high-volume, somewhat repetitive work, and must be able to meet strict deadlines. The role also involves the use of InDesign and Illustrator to perform basic typesetting and layout tasks.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Copyediting economic reports to resolve spelling and grammar issues
  • Ensuring that economic reports adhere to company writing and style guidelines
  • Editing economic reports without altering the meaning or logic of the content
  • Liaising with analysts to resolve writing, logic or consistency issues 
  • Performing basic layout and typesetting tasks in InDesign and Illustrator
  • Collaborating with other editors, analysts and managers
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in editing, publishing, English, communications, or equivalent
  • Excellent attention to detail, impeccable grammar skills and experience using style guides
  • Ability to learn new subjects and applications quickly
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills – the ability meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards is essential
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise and collaborate with different stakeholders
  • Sound computer skills
  • A background in economics or maths is an advantage
  • Experience using InDesign and Illustrator is an advantage

Preferred Attributes

  • General knowledge of business and economic concepts, or experience working at a business publication would be highly regarded
  • Experience as a proofreader or copyeditor would be preferred
