The Role

IBISWorld is looking for a driven individual who is fluent in Canadian French with experience in both copyediting and publication layout to work with our team of editors in the heart of the Financial District. The editorial and layout assistant will be responsible for editing market research reports and ensuring they adhere to IBISWorld writing standards and style guidelines. The assistant will also use InDesign and established templates to lay out reports according to design specifications consistent with the company’s brand.

Principal Duties and Responsibilties:

  • Copyediting reports written by analysts for basic fact checking, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Ensuring that reports adhere to the company’s writing and style guidelines.
  • Addressing and resolving writing, logic inconsistencies and other issues in a timely manner.
  • Writing brief summaries of key trends and statistics presented in the industry reports.
  • Following design guidelines to lay out and formatting industry research reports in InDesign.
  • Incorporating graphics into reports using existing InDesign and Illustrator templates.
  • Publishing reports as PDFs using IBISWorld proprietary applications.
  • Working and collaborating with the editorial team.
  • Interacting with analysts and the industry research manager on a regular basis.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


  • BA in Communications, English or Journalism.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in Canadian French. 
  • Previous experience as a proofreader or copy editor.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of standard American and Canadian English spelling and grammar rules.
  • General knowledge of business and economic concepts.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience using InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Capacity to check percentages and arithmetic.
  • Eye for visual balance.
  • Ability to learn new subjects and computer applications quickly.
  • Ability to manage high-volume, repetitive workload.
  • An understanding of team-based publishing processes and workflow.
