The Role

IBISWorld is looking for a driven, enthusiastic individual with experience in both copyediting and publication layout to work within the Canadian industry division at IBISWorld’s New York office in the heart of the Financial District. The Editorial & Layout assistant will be supporting the specialized Canadian industry division and be responsible for editing market research reports, making sure they are clear and grammatically correct and ensuring they adhere to IBISWorld writing standards and style guidelines. The individual will also use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator and established templates to lay out Canadian industry research reports according to design specifications consistent with the company’s brand. While this individual must be comfortable with high-volume, somewhat repetitive work, some assignments may need completed within strict deadlines.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Copyediting economic reports written by analysts for basic fact checking, spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Ensuring that reports adhere to the company’s writing and style guidelines
  • Addressing and resolving writing, logic inconsistencies and other issues in a timely manner
  • Writing brief summaries of key trends and statistics presented in the industry reports
  • Following design guidelines to lay out and format industry research reports in InDesign
  • Incorporating graphics into reports using existing InDesign and Illustrator templates
  • Publishing reports as PDFs using IBISWorld proprietary applications
  • Working with, supporting and collaborating with the editorial team
  • Interacting with the editorial team leader, research analysts and the production manager on a regular basis
  • Other duties and projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English or Journalism
  • Previous experience as a proofreader or copy editor; experience working at a business publication is advantageous
  • Excellent written communication skills and mastery of English language and grammar
  • An understanding of business writing and terminology; general knowledge of business and economic concepts is preferred
  • Strong organization and time management skills; flexibility with tight deadlines and varying workloads is a must
  • Experience using InDesign, Illustrator or other desktop publishing software
  • Strong attention to detail and eye for visual balance and aesthetics
  • Ability to learn new applications and new content subjects quickly
  • Comfortable with high-volume, somewhat repetitive work
  • Ability and willingness to give and receive constructive feedback
